It just irks me to think that we're teaching some of our brightest kids how to feel superior and afraid to make a comment for making a mistake. Then I realized, back when I was taking this workshop, that people never grow out of that. I took a few accelerated courses in high school (English and Writing), but I was in remedial classes for math and science, mainly because I had no interest in those subjects. I don't remember my honors level teachers ever pulling out the "intelligence" card though. I went to a meeting for the high school (CGS) that just seemed to highlight this point again...people feeling superior. I don't like it.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3525014001910482554/2666242830619894238/comments/default/6186242381898681843'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3525014001910482554/2666242830619894238/comments/default/6186242381898681843'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.pomegrantmindspot.com/2009/01/keeping-up-with-smart-kids-reiterated.html?showComment=1232068320000#c6186242381898681843' title=''/><author><name>A.E. Being with the book-smart, however, does nothing for my confidence.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Fear of being "normal" reminds me of the asshole art professor I had at Western KY. I brought some really effing cool articles about one of my favorite artists - Richard Serra (http://time4time.blogspot.com/2007/06/richard-serra-sculpture-at-moma.html) and "Professor Art" was all, Here's an article about Richard Serra in an 'average' magazine and oh, this is also an 'average' magazine. I thought, You're welcome, asshole. See if I muster up any more enthusiasm for *your* class.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3525014001910482554/2666242830619894238/comments/default/2416953354929387299'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3525014001910482554/2666242830619894238/comments/default/2416953354929387299'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.pomegrantmindspot.com/2009/01/keeping-up-with-smart-kids-reiterated.html?showComment=1232040180000#c2416953354929387299' title=''/><author><name>emily</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/01011398877829806006</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.pomegrantmindspot.com/2009/01/keeping-up-with-smart-kids-reiterated.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3525014001910482554.post-2666242830619894238' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3525014001910482554/posts/default/2666242830619894238' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
